Job Description

How you will make an Impact

We are looking for an ambitious candidate to join our Privacy Team in Johannesburg, South Africa. Candidates must have experience in advising clients on complex privacy and security related issues, and have a strong understanding of key technological concepts and issues across the globe.

You will be working with the broader Cyber Security and Analytics Risk Advisory teams on a whole range of privacy and security related matters, including compliance with applicable data privacy laws and regulations, international data transfers, personal data breaches, third-party risk management and vendor compliance, consent management, records and information management, privacy-by-design, and various other global privacy issues.

Candidates will be working on a variety of privacy, data protection, cyber security and data management matters, including:

  • Advising clients on compliance with applicable data privacy laws and regulations across the globe, with a particular focus on the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation, 2018 (GDPR) and other African legislations;
  • Advising clients on legal, organizational and technical challenges related to privacy and data protection by for example;
    • Assisting our clients in developing creative solutions to incorporate privacy into technological developments and everyday business;
    • assisting our clients in assessing and mitigating risks in relation to privacy and data protection;
    • creating and enhancing policies, procedures and ways of working in relation to privacy and data protection.
  • Developing new business propositions or leveraging new technology/innovations with support from other leaders within Cyber Privacy.
  • Managing diverse teams on client engagements and helping individuals develop their privacy knowledge and careers at Deloitte as a mentor and couch.
  • Monitoring of client engagements and projects from resource, financial and project management perspective.
  • Building and maintaining long-term relationships with various stakeholders across client organizations, market suppliers, technology vendors and partners.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • BCom Law / LLB Degree / BSc Computer Science or equivalent degree

Experience Required:

  • 3 to 4 years’ working experience in the privacy domain within a consulting or law firm
  • Experience working with data privacy laws and regulations globally (GDPR; POPIA) 
  • Cross functional management experience (legal/cyber security/data management)

Advantageous:

  • Cyber Security certifications
  • DAMA certification

  • Highly organised individual with strong attention to detail and ability to manage their own workload.
  • Able to analyse, problem solve and make decisions confidently.
  • Proactive, self-starter & committed individual seeking to add value in the role.
  • Ability to plan and control while managing changing environment and priorities.
  • Strong ability to build professional relationships and rapport with the broader Cyber and Risk Advisory teams and  clients.
  • Ability to work with dynamic stakeholders across different geographies globally
  • Ability to understand diverse backgrounds and different cultures
  • Strong communication skills in English, written and verbal, both internally and externally with clients, and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels.
  • Pragmatic attitude and ability to balance multiple simultaneous engagements.
  • Must possess the ability to deliver exceptional results in a fast-paced and high-pressure work environment.
  • Interested in developing knowledge in areas such as cybersecurity and data management.
