Job summaryThe Devices and Services (D&S) Trust & Security team works to ensure that our devices and services are designed and implemented to the high standards required to maintain and enhance customer trust. Security and Privacy are paramount to maintaining trust and we need to continue to build trusted products, maintain and operate trusted environments, and advocate trust to customers and stakeholders. The team develops security automation for devices & services, performs penetration testing, and handles and tracks incident responses to resolution. The Trust team is responsible for enabling business growth and innovation while honoring data policies and controls that help protect customer trust. We are responsible for defining and executing on the security and privacy requirements across the entire organization. Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband network connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.THE ROLEHave you wanted an opportunity to develop embedded software, and devicefor an advanced satellite broadband telecom service? The Security team owns the operational security of the constellation end-to-end. We provide the necessary infrastructure to establish secure communications and strong authentication, enabling the confidentiality for our customers and security for our constellation. This team drives the research & development, deployment and operation of several mission-critical embedded security systems for the Kuiper constellation end-to-end. You will work in a start-up like culture to bootstrap embedded software systems focused on security, and help instill the security culture in the organization. We are looking to hire a Senior Embedded Security Engineer that has experience in leading the technical conversation, making design decisions and architecting, complex security hardening and controls into embedded system. You will work with a diverse, multi-disciplinary embedded systems engineering team to determine the requirements and set the bar for our security best practices and systems development.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with our peer teams and customers to design suitable embedded software & security systems and interfaces to fulfill the mission needs.
  • Design and develop embedded software security systems that meet the mission criteria and requirements
  • Collaborate with your fellow team members to form a strong foundation for a embedded software & security organization in Project Kuiper
  • Help on-board and mentor new team members.
  • Utilize embedded OS hardning, device driver secure design and reliability to form resilency in Kuiper embedded systems and devices.
Export Control RequirementDue to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Key job responsibilities
  • Embedded system, and device, secure by design architecture, design and guidance.
  • Security control, logging, auditing, and incident material design.
  • OS, device, embedded system hardening, with resilency best practices.
  • Assessing 3rd party embedded software, devices and systems.
About the teamKuiper Security ensures those products, services, devices, and operations are secure and compliant. Our team defines foundational security tenets and capabilities, designs compliance and regulatory framework, aligns with Amazon and Devices & Services policy implementations. We formulate security policies and practices for our products and services based on Kuiper regional governments', customers', and partners' requirements.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in CS, CE, or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years delivering security software in a production environment
  • 5+ years experience delivering embedded software systems in C/C++, Rust and other languages
  • 5+ years experience in delivering software for Linux

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and technical knowledge of security engineering, system and network security, authentication and security protocols, cryptography, and application security
  • Master's degree with a specialization in information security
  • Knowledge of current security threats, trends, and mitigations
  • Experience in a lead role, including guiding and mentoring other developers
  • Hands-on experience with satellite communications and management software
  • Experience with low-level programming and embedded systems
