POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Network Security Engineer leads the growing global Network Security Engineering Team consisting of security engineering, security operations, and identity access management teams within the Pole Star security organization. This role is responsible for the architecture implementation, and operation of all physical and cloud-based network services/systems. This position will be responsible for cross functional collaboration across multiple departments. The ideal candidate will have exceptional organizational, leadership and management skills.

TRAVEL REQUIRED:

Ability for up to 10% travel both domestically and internationally

WORK SCHEDULE NOTE:

While this position is scheduled for a traditional Monday – Friday work week, our systems run 24/7/365 and as such, you may be expected to perform out of hours, on-call support on an as needed basis. Additional compensation may be available for working on-call, standby or holiday hours.

This is a Public Trust position and requires completion of a State and Federal Criminal History Report (i.e., background check) and may require a Department of Defense security clearance. Current and future employment will be contingent upon satisfactory completion of both the FBI Summary History Report and if designated, a DoD security clearance.

This position requires use of or access to information subject to the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”) or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (“ITAR”). Accordingly, all applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of these regulations. Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Configure and optimize physical and cloud-based network infrastructure equipment such as next generation firewall devices, network switches, and routers
  • Collaborate with Operations Team to diagnose and correct network connectivity problems
  • Implement new system design procedures, test procedures, and quality standards
  • Coordinate with the Operations Team to install and maintain network infrastructure devices operating system software (e.g., firmware)
  • Provide representation for and help Co-Lead (along with the Operations Team) the Infrastructure Change Management Board
  • Maintain all network related documentation libraries such as network diagrams and procedure documents
  • Integrate new systems into existing network architectures
  • Lead global vulnerability management activities to ensure all systems are updated within adopted SLAs
  • Provide feedback to the VP, Information Security on network requirements, including physical and cloud-based network architecture and infrastructures
  • Test and maintain network infrastructures including software and hardware devices

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Ability to operate network equipment including hubs, routers, switches, bridges, servers, transmission media, and related hardware
  • Ability to manage next generation firewall (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet)
  • Ability to monitor traffic flows across physical and cloud-based networks
  • Knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies
  • Knowledge of risk management processes (e.g., methods for assessing and mitigating risk)
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and ethics as they relate to cybersecurity and privacy
  • Knowledge of cyber threats and vulnerabilities
  • Knowledge of communication methods, principles, and concepts that support physical and cloud-based infrastructures
  • Knowledge and capabilities and applications of network equipment including routers, switches, bridges, servers, transmission media, and related hardware
  • Knowledge of information technology (IT) security principles used to manage risks and methods (e.g., firewalls, demilitarized zones, encryption)
  • Knowledge of local area and wide area networking principles and concepts including bandwidth
  • Knowledge of traffic flows across the network (e.g., TCP, IP, OSI, and ITIL)
  • Knowledge of network systems management concepts for networks and related standards (e.g., ITIL)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to properly translate and articulate positioning and technology
  • Proven ability to work effectively with both local and remote teams

DESIRED SKILLS (Not Required):

  • Knowledge of information classification program and procedures for information compromise
  • Knowledge of security models (e.g., Bell-LaPadula, Biba integrity model, Clark-Wilson integrity model)
  • 8+ years if experience in technical project/program management
  • 8+ years of building and managing networks at scale
  • Experience working with DHS or DoD
