Cybersecurity Engineer

We have an opening for a full-time, permanent Cybersecurity Engineer to join our talented, dynamic team in support of a large Federal Government customer.

The Cybersecurity Engineer will support The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) on the Data Discovery, Analytics, and Labeling (DDAL) Program. The program is focused on enhancing the VA’s cybersecurity program to meet data privacy and cybersecurity needs. Work hours will be Eastern Standard Time.

Duties

  • Configure data classification engine scanning, leveraging Varonis Policy Pack and rule customization for specific compliance use cases.
  • Remediate data risk and exposure leveraging the Varonis Automation Engine; validate all remediation rules; perform and present post-remediation Data Risk Assessment.
  • Optimize threat models by reviewing and maintaining accurate privileged account discovery; tune threat models based on business needs, and impact and severity of issue; integrate alerts from Varonis in other systems such as Splunk.
  • Help to configure, troubleshoot, and support infrastructure and applications such as ESXi, vSphere, AWS, Windows, RedHat, and ServiceNOW.
  • Work across the VA Cyber Security Operations Center Team and various Storage Teams in working sessions to help stand up, implement or monitor the Varonis DSP Product.
  • Provide support with technical/policy writing, updating implementation plans, CONOPS, SOPS and VA Policy Handbook/Directives.
  • Create tickets in ServiceNow (SNow) and create SNow Dashboard creations for graphical statistical displays and charting.
  • Support the development of Zero Trust (ZT) implementation strategies that are directed by ZT memorandums.
  • Using Excel and PowerPoint create presentations, charts and trending graphs as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related scientific or technical discipline
  • Eight years of relevant experience may be substituted for education
  • Experience in 2 or more of the following applications
    1. ESXI (Configuration, Troubleshooting, Patching)
    2. vSphere (Configuration, Troubleshooting, Snapshots, Restores)
    3. AWS (Server builds, Snapshots, Restores)
    4. RedHat Server Administration (Patching, Troubleshooting, Upgrading)
    5. Service NOW
  • Varonis DSP experience is a plus
  • Experience with cybersecurity tools (i.e. Varonis, Splunk, etc.)
  • Experience with Window Server Administration (Patching, Troubleshooting, Upgrading, Migration)
  • Knowledge of different sensitive data types, including PII, PHI, including non-identifiable and identifiable
  • Experience with NIST special publications and security controls is a plus
  • Experience with security reviews following FISMA reporting is a plus
  • Experience with Executive Order 14028 and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) memorandum requirements associated with EO 14028 is a plus
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; must be able to write technical documentation
  • Self-motivated professional with proven experience. Flexible, team player
  • Experience working remotely and working with remote customers
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Proactive and ability to work independently
  • Ability to problem-solve complex IT issues
  • Ability to obtain a government security clearance
  • US Citizenship
