The Industry Leaders team at Appian is a growing part of our business development organization. Our Defense business has experienced tremendous growth and we are seeking an Industry Leader to help further refine our strategy and drive growth. As the Industry Leader looking after our Defense and Intelligence customers, you will have overall responsibility for go to market strategy, ensuring client success, and continued steady growth in license revenue across our customers, partners, and prospects in this space. In addition, you will be responsible for developing our go to market strategy for the Aerospace and Defense Contractor vertical.
You will spend approximately 50% of your time with our existing clients and partners, helping to evangelize new applications for our application platform software and providing strategy and coaching for our Sales and Professional Services teams. The rest of your time will be split between helping Account Executives design programs to penetrate new target accounts and creating thought leadership material (e.g., white papers, articles, blog posts), speaking at industry events, etc. to gain prospect interest. You will be heavily involved in new business capture, providing senior level guidance on win themes, teaming, and deal strategy.  
To be successful in this role you need:

Lead and participate in presentations and follow-on education activities at prospects and customers
</li>
<li>
Provide guidance to Appian Sales on the best approach to capture opportunities in the given territory by creating key win themes that resonate with target audiences

Settle our marketing strategy by determining appropriate compelling topics, trade shows, and content to support our overall public sector messaging

Work with senior leaders at our delivery partners to coordinate joint pursuits and internal messaging

Basic qualifications:
<ul>
<li>
 15+ years of direct experience working with or for Defense Agencies
<ul>
<li>
Prior military service a plus
</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>
Hands on experience driving new solutions in an area directly impacted by policy changes, significant process inefficiencies, or experiencing high growth
</li>
<li>
Strong technical aptitude to bridge between client business leaders and Appian team members
</li>
<li>
Demonstrated track record of creating written thought leadership materials and speaking at industry events
</li>
<li>
Experience participating in federal business development activities
</li>
<li>Currently holds active national security clearance</li>
<li>
Experience working with Appian a plus
</li>

As a Cloud Security Engineer (CSE) your role will be to identify areas of threat to existing systems, develop remediations to meet those needs and offer ways to integrate those solutions within our organization as a whole. To be successful in this role, you will:

<li>Support the implementation of the strategic vision for Technical Compliance that is aligned with company vision.</li>
<li>Build &amp; support Cloud Services and Cloud Infrastructure.</li>
<li>Strong and proven track record of a focus on quality and automation.</li>
<li>Work with Compliance teams to translate regulatory requirements into engineering solutions and drive alignment on compliance requirements.</li>
<li>Develop engineering guidelines based on industry best practices &amp; regulatory requirements.</li>
<li>Proactively identify gaps or conflicts in existing processes and drive remediation of security and efficiency deficiencies identified during the analysis process.</li>
<li>Conduct post-mortems to analyze failures and prevent recurrence.</li>
<li>Support the implementation of the strategic vision for Technical Compliance that aligns with the company's direction.</li>
<li>Build strong relationships with business partners and facilitate continuous improvement aligned with operational processes.</li>

About you: 
<ul>
<li>BS in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.</li>
<li>History of supporting Cloud/IT infrastructure in a cloud environment, and a fundamental understanding of security controls that should be in place.</li>
<li>Strong knowledge of Public Cloud Service Providers (AWS, Google, Azure), specifically the types of services offered and industry standard internal controls and best practices for configuring and managing these services (AWS preferred).</li>
<li>Strong Linux OS Skills across multiple distros.</li>
<li>Experience interviewing subject matter experts and using knowledge to develop, edit, and revise documentation including standard operating procedures, system security plans, and policies and procedures.</li>
<li>Experience interacting with process owners, testing and documenting solutions, handling inquiries from stakeholders and security/compliance teams. </li>
<li>Proven experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, Python, Git, Terraform, and their uses in cloud automation in Infrastructure as Code.</li>
<li>Operational experience with networking and an understanding of secure networking principles.</li>
<li>Experience operating, troubleshooting, and scaling online services</li>
<li>Track record of automating tasks to remove human involvement and to be self-healing.</li>

Preferred skills include:

<li>Experience reviewing infrastructure and application designs for security implications, security scans and remediating vulnerabilities.</li>
<li>Ownership of items designed and implemented will take the form of on-going development and include after hours support. These items could include support of access controls, monitoring of infrastructure security, and on-going remediation for compliance of tools and processes implemented.</li>
