Senior Security Engineer

As a Senior Engineer on our Security Engineering team you will help ensure the security of one of the biggest online platforms in the world, handling massive amounts of traffic at very low latency. We value versatile engineers who enjoy being deeply involved in all aspects of building and securing our platform.

We are looking for a talented engineer with an interest in designing and integrating new and existing security controls on the Fastly platform. You will help evolve the security monitoring and response capabilities that keep our services secure.

You will be supported by our Security Operations team, where you can learn and develop. You’ll make sure our customers benefit from services built to the highest security standards in the industry.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead the design and implementation of technical security controls at scale to secure production systems.
• Partner with internal security teams to enhance Fastly's ability to detect, analyze and prevent malicious activity.
• Identify and generate the telemetry (logs, alerts, etc.) used to detect malicious activity.
• Develop and improve tooling to integrate data to increase our security monitoring capabilities.
• Maintain our existing security tools and platforms through their lifecycle.
• Identify current manual processes and look for ways to automate them and reduce toil on the team.
• Proactively looks for ways to improve the overall security posture of assets at Fastly.
• Proactively contribute to evolving programs and processes.
• Participate in our on-call rotations and SIRT process when required.

What We’re Looking For: 

• Extensive experience deploying and operating services in a Linux server environment. Examples of systems we currently deploy and operate are osquery, Falco, and custom built software.
• Proficiency in one or more general purpose programming languages such as Python, Ruby, Go, or Rust.
• Experience building and managing infrastructure using tools such as Ansible, Chef, Terraform, or Kubernetes.
• Experience instrumenting systems for metrics and observability with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk.
• Working knowledge of at least one major public cloud and infrastructure e.g. Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Knowledge of security vulnerabilities, attacks, and exploitation techniques.
• A history of making smart trade offs to deliver high quality and effective work on schedule.

We’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:

• In-depth knowledge of the security controls of least one major public cloud and infrastructure (e.g., Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform).

Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.

Salary:

The estimated salary range for this position is $155,370 to $194,210. 

Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
