Senior Security Engineer

About the Role

As a Senior Security Engineer, you'll be essential in protecting our advanced web software and backend services. You'll collaborate with diverse teams to implement technical solutions that will help mitigate security vulnerabilities and reduce security risk across Chime. Your clear communication will be crucial as you explain security trade-offs and create practical solutions to manage risks effectively.

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $167,200 and up to $232,200. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

In this role, you can expect to

  • Design and develop comprehensive security controls and guardrails utilizing automation, libraries, services, frameworks, and secure defaults, ensuring a robust defense against threats.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to assess and mitigate risks associated with new additions or modifications to the system, maintaining a proactive approach to security.
  • Spearhead projects aimed at identifying and reducing security risks, leading efforts to fortify the organization's security posture.
  • Conduct internal penetration tests as needed, and security assessments to uncover vulnerabilities, ensuring the integrity and safety of the system through rigorous evaluation.
  • Present findings and solutions to leadership and peers, highlighting impacts.
  • Partner with engineering for threat modeling/security design reviews of new services and infrastructure.
  • Effectively communicate findings and implications to leadership and fellow engineers.

To thrive in this role, you have

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g. Python, Java, Ruby, GoLang, JavaScript)
  • 2+ years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Go, Python, Java).
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • Expertise in web/backend app security; bonus for mobile and AWS..
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Strong software security fundamentals and ability to perform threat modeling.
  • The ability to clearly articulate prioritized, actionable security work for Engineering.
  • A commitment to shaping fintech security culture
