Lead Analyst, Threat & Protective Intelligence

About the Role

Chime onboards thousands of accounts and processes hundreds of millions of dollars in transactions every week, including debit card purchases, transfers between banks, P2P payments, direct deposits, and more.

As a Lead Analyst on our Threat and Protective Intelligence (TPI) team, you will play a key role in developing and maturing our data-driven approach to threat intelligence. You will spearhead the creation and adoption of a strategy and process for collecting, evaluating, and operationalizing the most relevant, credible, and actionable data about fraud and other threats targeting or impacting Chime’s customers, products, and reputation. Drawing on your considerable intelligence and data science background, you will create solutions for proactively identifying emerging threats based on external data, as well as using internal data to validate and scope credible information about existing threats. Finally, in line with team and organizational priorities, you will own or meaningfully contribute to high-priority cross-functional projects and initiatives, including those focusing on the development of new technical capabilities for operationalizing threat intelligence.

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $149,300 and up to $207,300. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

In this role, you can expect to

  • Build, implement, and maintain an intelligence collection management strategy and program covering: mapping stakeholder intelligence requirements to available or acquirable collection sources; a repeatable approach for identifying, evaluating, and validating collection sources and derived information; and ingesting and processing information in a manner conducive to daily review by intelligence analysts (e.g., consolidating collection from different sources for triage).
  • Identify potentially transferable fraud and reputational threats (i.e., threats to the financial sector) and analyze and validate externally identified threat leads with data analysis and visualization techniques.
  • Lead or meaningfully contribute to cross-functional projects and work streams for improving Chime’s collection, ingestion, and utilization of threat intelligence data (including for proactive awareness and education initiatives).
  • Produce, contribute to, and deliver intelligence reports and briefings on an as needed basis.
  • Shape Chime’s approach to sharing intelligence with, and utilizing intelligence from, vendors and other external partners.
  • Support team and organizational leadership in creating, capturing, and communicating metrics about the impact of disseminated intelligence in financial, operational, and reputational terms.

To thrive in this role, you have

  • 8+ years of experience in an intelligence collection or analysis position, preferably within the financial sector and/or government.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise with applying data science and data visualization in an intelligence or threat investigation context.
  • Deep expertise with cyber-enabled fraud threats facing the financial sector, generally, and financial technology sub-sector, specifically.
  • An appreciation for how intelligence supports and fulfills strategic business objectives
  • Intense curiosity about existing and emerging financially motivated threats (e.g., different types of fraud and scams) and their drivers.
  • Strong understanding of the theory and application of the intelligence cycle and structured analytic techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly with regards to conveying and explaining technical topics to non-technical audiences.
  • Significant experience partnering with internal and external partners to collect, analyze, and share intelligence.
  • Demonstrated project management or program management experience, ideally with cross-functional initiatives involving technical, non-technical, and executive stakeholders.
  • Outstanding organizational and critical reasoning abilities and the ability to extract relevant insights from data.
  • The ability to responsibly balance competing priorities.
  • Terrific relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, or analogous programming or relational database language (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Looker, Hex, or analogous data analysis and visualization services.
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
