IT Security SME

Avint LLC is seeking a motivated and skilled IT Security Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our team in the Herndon, VA area. This position will act as the senior cybersecurity technical SME within this engagement.

The SME will provide technical and management leadership on major tasks or technology assignments. The SME will establish goals and plans that meet project objectives and has domain and expert technical knowledge. The SME will plan, implement, upgrade, or monitor security measures for the protection of computer networks and information. The candidate will ensure appropriate security controls are in place that will safeguard digital files and vital electronic infrastructure.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Incorporates threat intelligence into countermeasures to detect and prevent intrusions and malware infestation
  • Identifies threat actor tactics, techniques and procedures and based on indicators develops custom signatures and blocks
  • Implement the core Security Intelligence Center (SIC) concepts (SOC vs. SIC, Cyber Kill Chain, APT)
  • Have a strong understanding of the enterprise network and how each component contributes to Security Intelligence
  • Have a strong understanding of the tools & techniques necessary to efficiently identify trends and extract indicators from large data sources
  • Know the importance how to be in control of the adversary’s intrusion steps
  • Know how to identify and create mitigation for the Cyber Kill Chain grid
  • Understand the concept of APT
  • Understand what makes APT different than traditional cyber threats
  • Know examples of specific intrusion techniques used by APT adversaries
  • Recognize what you’ll need to know to prevent or identify APT intrusions
  • Understand key networking concepts relevant to the Security Intelligence process
  • Understand key forensics and incident response concepts critical to the Security Intelligence process
  • Understand and work with various categories of electronic evidence including media, email, and networks
  • Study the detection and prevention of intrusion and attacks
  • Understand structured digital evidence collection and evaluation
  • Understand concepts of packet analysis
  • Examine different methods of policy creation, implement a security policy and create a policy document
  • Navigate the command line using specific expressions to manipulate data
  • Handle and organize disparate data about detections, attacks, and attackers
  • Discovery techniques and vetting of new intelligence
  • Build better actionable intelligence from data

Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Experience with Computer network defense technologies and Cyber Kill Chain
  • Experience with Threat actor tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) and indicator identification using large data sources
  • Work well under pressure with differing levels of Management
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and communications
  • Exposure to other network monitoring systems and IT Service Management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Work, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with DoD, Army and/or USA Corps of Engineers (USACE) clients
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills to effectively translate and communicate complex technical information and risk to all levels of internal and external organizations
  • Work well under pressure with differing levels of Team Members and Management
  • Experience with classified and unclassified networks

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor in related field or 10+ years of experience providing cybersecurity operations or consulting support
  • Serves as Career Manager responsible for performance management and professional development of lower levels

  • Develops subject matter expertise of other staff

  • Leads multi-disciplinary working sessions to solicit highly complex ideas and develop innovative solutions
  • Promotes collaboration across functional teams
  • Develops and presents highly professional presentations, complex ideas, solutions and innovations to current and prospective clients, partners, and Executive Leadership
  • Proactively sells Avint's brand and core service offerings
  • Always exemplifies Avint's core values
  • Proactively drives business growth within a specific market segment (DOD, FedCiv, Commercial), or IT SME area

Must obtain a Public Trust, Secret or Top-Secret clearance
